The Like List

Let's face it, we aren't all perfect Suzy homemakers that have all the time in the world to sit around thinking up recipes with endless time to accomplish them. It's not always easy to just shop on the outer aisles of the store, to have everything fresh and organic. We sometimes need some conveniences in the mix.

I haven't been gluten free for to long, but long enough to start getting into the groove a bit with what works and what doesn't. I appreciate all those recipe warriors who have gone before me, tackled the problems and had big imaginations...without them I'd be really really hungry. The best thing about the following items is they can still be incorporated into your diet even if you're not GF.

I've compiled a list of some of just a few of the great things I've found in the gluten free world and the best things that help boost the gluten free life style.

Betty Crocker Gluten-Free Yellow Cake Mix

The possibilities are endless with this one kids. Adding fresh or dried fruit, baking it and drying it into breadcrumbs and mixing it with pumpkin or pudding gives it a whole other flavor profile.

Tamari
In order to replace the wheat gluten filled soy sauce that is common and used in many many recipes, the best choice is tamari. Found in most major grocery stores on the top shelf of the Asian section. It is thicker, has less sodium, and has a more rounder flavor profile. Whether you're using it in dressings, asian sauces, or as a seasoning, you might be surprised how you don't miss your regular soy sauce.

When choosing this product, make sure it has zero gluten. Does Organic matter? YES! Soybeans are one of the most common GMO (genetically modified organisms) that are sprouting up in most major U.S farms. Whenever you are buying anything soy, please make sure you make an effort to buy organic.
Yes! In this case it does. Soybeans are one of the most common GMO (genetically modified organisms) that are sprouting up in our lovely U.S. farms. Whenever you buy anything soy, please make an effort to look for organic options - See more at: http://www.eatlifewhole.com/2013/09/what-is-tamari-vs-soy-sauce/#sthash.6ccP0yBY.dpuf

Coconut Oil
(I prefer Trader Joe's)

Coconut is one of the world's most nourishing foods. This creamy taste of the tropics is great for sauteing and baking, enhancing your favorite recipes and body care. Ideal as a medium-heat cooking oil, a nutritious substitute in baking and is "better than butter" on bread, vegetables or popcorn. Great for skin and hair care.

Ancient Harvest Pasta
Ancient Harvest is gluten free, very low in sodium, cholesterol free, light and delicious! Cooks in 4-6 minutes! A tiny grain, no bigger than a mustard seed, once fed an ancient civilization of Peru and Chile. HERE is a link to my post on Quinoa. Quinoa stands alone as a complete protein grain. It supplies all the essential amino acids in a balanced pattern.
